a fun, constructive weekend

This weekend was fun because a lot was accomplished and we as a family worked together. I'm not going to bore you with a long laundry list, but We did work on the secret garden, and hopefully some flowers will pop up soon.

I realize it doesn't look like much, but I've got a whole month people! The important thing is the dirt is weed free and wild flower seeds have been planted. It's a good thing.

This weekend I was also privy to learning a lesson or two about forgiveness. My feelings were hurt (no big surprise there, I tend to be a tad sensitive) and I could only think about how it affected me. Me, me, me. I was angry, disappointed, scared.

In the middle of my little scene I thought how the other person must feel. Then I realized that I had actually done something similar in the past. Imagine my embarrassment! Here I was thinking how terrible this friend was to do such a thing, how this was so irrational, then remember that it wasn't that far of a stretch for me either. Remembering that made me climb off my high horse and bring the issue back into perspective. And honestly, it felt good.

Sometimes I forget good people mess up too, and when a good person does mess up, it doesn't make them terrible. It makes them human. So learn from my embarrassment here: when you're spitting nails angry because someone has wronged you, step back. Take a deep breath, and address the problem to work it out, but then let it go. Who knows how long it will be before you are begging for their forgiveness!

I finished reading this book last month

and loved it. I learned a ton about forgiveness-for others, but mostly for myself. Sometimes being perfect or just trying to do better hoping to eventually be perfect (a feat never to be accomplished in this life, that is for certain) can be really overwhelming. This helped a ton, and was probably the reason I was able to let go so quickly. I highly recommend it!

On a much lighter note, I think I'll share these three thoughts:

1. I love the smell this leaves as I mop our floors (the green one-meadows and rain)

2. I thought this was a super sweet thing for a husband to do for his wife ( the list ).

3. I am amazed by this woman. Everything she does gets my wheels a turnin', can't wait to see what the rest of the week brings on her blog.
