-The last weekend of Christmas vacation Steve could tell I was going to snap. He called Melanie, asked her if she could get away for a whole day (thanks to Luke, she was able to) and surprised me with Saturday in Sacramento. IKEA Sacramento. I had so much fun, it was exactly what I needed. What's even better, there was no bad feelings when I got back a lot later than what I had expected to. He was totally cool with it.
-The next day after church he put together 90% of the items I bought at Ikea. I didn't even have to ask.
-If he sees that a day has been particularly stressful for me, he asks if I would like to take a break and enjoy a hot bath. I can specifically remember taking a bath two times at 5:30 while everyone else was eating dinner (before I had to leave for meetings at 7:00pm).
-He has been very patient with the whole "I don't cook" phase. He'd probably chuckle at the word phase; honestly it's more like motto.
-If he goes out of town, which he does a lot of, he tries really hard to get back home around dinner time. He has had lots of mornings start between 3:30 and 4:00 so he can drive six hours round trip and still have time to get work done. All because I really don't like to be separated for long amounts of time.
-That being said, when long trips are unavoidable, like last week, he calls a lot to check in. I love to hear from him even though we don't have much to say. It lets me know that even though we don't get to see each other, he's still thinking about me and the kids.
-He took all of my scrapbooking stuff out of the room Saturday in an effort to help me get that room looking good. We moved furniture around to get it just right. Because of him the scrap room looks like this
-Because of him our bedroom looks like this,
but he is a smart guy. We agreed that I have two weeks to get everything back in the room. I'm not sure what will happen if I go over my allotted time, but I wouldn't put it past him to start a bonfire in the backyard. He'd probably even roast hot dogs and marshmallows with the kids.
-Before committing to a tee time or basketball he checks in to make sure nothing else is planned.
-He requires respect for me from our children. If he hears a tone or answer that is otherwise, it is corrected.
-I love the fact that we agree the kids came to live with us. We run the show, and they're along for the ride. This may sound a little harsh, but we believe in order to have a peaceful home we need to be parents/adults and have boundaries. Consistent boundaries.
-He loves his kids. He often surprises them with fun things to do. He even shares the wii. That's huge.

You have a lot of nice things to say about your hubby! I am glad he treats you so well, you deserve it :)
I love this post. Steve sounds like he's being an awesome husband, totally what you deserve and need. The bath thing (and the IKEA trip) melted my heart. Your scrap room looks awesome and I'm sure you'll find a place for all that fun scrap stuff! If you knew what my closet looks like because I don't have a scrap room...it's pretty scary!:) Glad to hear you're hanging in there and can't wait to see your LOAD projects! FUN!:)
