Today is National Learn How to Merge Day.

There is no specific reason why today is designated, I just feel the need to inform the general public about how to merge onto the freeway (because I know the general public reads my blog).
This has been on my list of things to blog about since a recent trip with a close friend who will remain nameless (Melanie) in an effort to not embarrass her for criticizing my driving. I mean, HELLO! If she thought her best friend was an airhead of a driver (who has a spotless record by the way) that must mean there are a lot of misinformed people out there right?
Right.
Let us refer to the California Driver Handbook 2009:
Space to Merge:
Enter the freeway at or near the speed of traffic (Remember that the maximum speed allowed is 65 mph on most freeways) Do not stop before merging with freeway traffic unless absolutely necessary. Freeway traffic has the right of way.
*Italics added to prove my point...hehe...
The car getting on the freeway needed to adjust his speed (ie. go faster than 45 mph) to the speed of traffic, not the other way around. I absolutely hate it when cars enter thinking that the cars already on the freeway need to move to let them in.
Take that slow drivers of California.
You have been properly informed.
If you read my blog, that is.

Now could you please give a discourse on 4-way stops? The general public, who definitely reads your blog, is in need of that one too.
Good reminders for CA drivers. Now if you could just fix NE freeway merging lanes which are practically non-existant, it would be great. It's like you have to have a sports car in order to obtain optimal speed in order to not die when trying to merge into traffic on the interstate here. Oh yeah, and did I mention NE drivers have half a brain (of course, I'm NOT considering myself a NE driver!:)) which maybe explains the driving of 70 mph when there is ice and snow on the highway. Your post makes me miss 99/41!
LOL, you should see the people out here. Makes me want to stay on post where the speed limit is 15 MPH!
